Ascot Brass joined with Wokingham Sing Healthy choirs at Wokingham Baptist Church on the evening of Saturday 8th July in a concert titled Serenata. The choir presented a selection of opera choruses and folk songs, while the band's programme was a mix of brass band originals and popular arrangements. Solos were performed by Chris Hill (flugel: Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez) and David Daws (trombone: Arthur Pryor's Thoughts of Love).
Band and choir joined for several items, opening the evening with the folk tune The Water of Tyne, arranged for band by Philip Harper and for choir by Louise Drewett. The first half concluded with Verdi's Anvil Chorus from Il Trovatore, and the finale for the concert was a rousing rendering of the Grand March from Aida.
The event raised funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and for ARC, a Wokingham-based charity providing counselling services to all ages.
